I’ve taken some old boards that had pictures on them which we don’t hang any more, white washed them ready for new creativity.
Following the rain on a painted window technique I’ve used a few times.
Liking the colours on this one.
Now the problem with doing a massive painting… is that it’s massive! Takes up loads of space, (most of a wall in this case) requires lots of paint… and I mean lots! And it takes ages…
Now this last point isn’t really an issue, in fact it’s more the point of this particular painting, do something over a long period of time that I go away from and come back to.
The sky isn’t really the sky in the photo that this picture is based on but it’s more how that sky feels through the trees at the moment, I walk these woods almost every day and in the afternoon it now feels like the sky is rushing to get dark.
This piece started as a practice of a dabbing style and just grew into what I’m seeing as a transition of water to earth, the green and browns like the compressed layers in stone and the yellow and orange shores and sand.
It was certainly fun to do and I’m enjoying having it on the wall.
This spring time during the great “lockdown” of 2020, I started to whittle and shapes some piece of wood into necklace gifts.
The sloth I’d seen a picture of on Pinterest and was able to almost perfectly replace it.
Using fine drill bits and files I was able to shape cut away the unwanted parts.
The wolf head was a slower process as the piece of wood was much harder and took much more work to shape.
Enjoyable experience and I think I’ll be making more as gifts in the future and I have about 20 slices of a branch to use!
Lessons learnt from a recent water inspired painting, applied to the sky of this one. More layers of light blues and then white and then the sun and finally the green of the leaves to come….

It was fun to as the style was very different to anything I had previous done and it was a much slower production, taking 3-4 days as I needed to allow the paint to dry.
Big canvas, starting with the trees
This is going to take a while, but it’s feeling good already, I know where it’s going and the techniques for each element, trees, leaves, sky, sun, shrubs, ferns, path…
it’s already finished in my head it just needs me to feed the canvas the paint and it’ll form it’s self… almost.
All left to right strokes, got the head a little wrong, will have to try another
There was no idea, plan or forethought with this one, the paint just flowed on to the canvas and the lines started to form themselves.
I’m not sure it’s finished yet… it could go on for a while..
